Healthcare providers (e.g., doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, etc.) have the ability to make a positive difference in their community’s immunization rates; the prevention of disease outbreaks; and the number of their patients who receive their vaccinations on time. Some strategies that providers might want to utilize include extended office hours for vaccinations; patient education and vaccination recommendations; participation in the local IIS; implementation of standing orders; AFIX visits from the local immunization program; and participating in continuing vaccine education. More information on these strategies can be found by clicking on the links below.
Additionally, the CDC’s “Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases”, also known as "The Pink Book” and "The Guide to Community Preventive Services" has other immunization improvement strategies providers may want to consider.
