CDC Launches
Provider Immunization Education Listserv (ImmuEd)
For the past two years at the National Immunization Conference,
ad hoc meetings were held on the success of provider education programs in
helping to increase both immunization rates and healthcare services to children.
There were more than sixty attendees at the 2002 meeting, and the overall
demand was for a system in which the cutting edge issues concerning immunization
could be discussed at random amongst a wide array of healthcare professionals,
programs and organizations.
ImmuEd, developed in response to this request,
is a forum which will facilitate the exchange of ideas, tools, achievements,
and lessons learned. This listserv was created to help you provide
better education as well as help medical practices that deliver the majority
of vaccines in this country improve their immunization rates and the quality
of their immunization services. Many states and communities already
have provider/practice-based programs and can serve as mentors for programs
that are just beginning.
What is the ImmuEd list?
The ImmuEd list is an automated electronic mailing list sponsored and managed
by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/ National Immunization
Program/ Immunization Services Division. Individuals subscribe to ImmuEd
list and then messages and responses to the messages are simultaneously sent
to every member.
What is the purpose of the ImmuEd List?
The overarching purpose of the ImmuEd listserv is to improve immunization
rates and quality of immunization practices by all providers, practices
and clinics. The ImmuEd list is a forum which allows participants
to exchange experiences, challenges, expertise, strategies, comments, lessons
learned and suggestions to improve practice and clinician immunization education
and quality improvement programs, activities in the area of immunization
practice, as they relate to the CDC supported and recommended activities.
ImmuEd may also be used as a resource for the participants
to gain information from peer participants about programs, ideas, publications
and resources that have been effective in the practice of providing immunization
education/quality improvement services to target audiences, although attachments
will not be supported.
The ImmuEd list is a closed list available only to
persons and entities associated with the development, implementation, administration
and/or provision of immunizations or immunization education/quality improvement
programs, vaccines, or programs promoting this practice. Messages to the
list will be posted automatically to the group members and archived for future
reference. The moderator will add and delete users and users may un-subscribe
at any time.
All messages must pertain to official business.
No lobbying information may be sent. Users who send messages that
attempt to advocate the use of one product over another will receive a warning
message. Users with a second violation will be removed from the listserv.

How to Send Mail to and Respond to Mail from ImmuED List:
1. Post new messages and respond to received messages by sending
an email to ImmuEd@listserv.cdc.gov (not case sensitive). You
will not receive a copy of the message you send. Sending a message
to the list and responding to the message sends the message to everyone
on the list.
2. Remember to include a descriptive subject line alerting people
to the content of your message. When responding to a message, keep the
same subject line to help everyone follow the "thread" of the discussion.
In addition, in the text of you message, state what you are responding to
near the beginning of your message. For example, you may wish to write,
"In response to Mary's questions about subject A, I would suggest B..."
Statements like this will make it easier for everyone to follow the progression
of the discussion.
3. Include at least your name and email address at the end of your
message so that we can identify who you are.
4. No attachments can be sent through the ImmuEd list.
5. Sometimes, you may want to respond directly to the member of the
list who wrote the message rather than to the whole list. In this
case, make sure you address your response to the individual's own email
address, and not the list address.
Warning on Confidential Information:
Confidential Information should not be posted on the list, since every
member of the ImmuEd list will receive the message and the reply.
Please conduct all confidential matters through normal channels (direct
email, written correspondence, or telephone). Messages on this list
should never contain data with personal identifiers. Messages are
stored and could be accessed at a later date. Messages on the list
are subject to Freedom of Information Act requests.
For problems with ImmuEd list and further questions, please contact Terrence
Campbell at tqc4@cdc.gov, 404-639-8588,
or Victoria Evans at vae3@cdc.gov, 404-639-8637.
