Betty Bumpers Inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame - Some Thoughts from  Executive Director Amy Pisani
by Amy Pisani (amyp@ecbt.org)

Next year ECBT will celebrate our fifteen year anniversary.  Ten years ago I was given the greatest opportunity of my life, a position at Every Child By Two.  Not a day goes by that I am not grateful for this fortune.  When people learn about my job, they immediately inquire about what it is like to work for Rosalynn Carter.  I tell them that she is one of the smartest people I’ve ever known and that her kindness and caring for those in need is unending.  But as many of you know, Betty Bumpers is the “not so silent partner” of Every Child By Two who keeps the program on track.  Betty inspires me on a daily basis.  In the ten years I have known her, she has taught me a lifetime of lessons.  I am endlessly inspired by her forthrightness, steadfastness, her passion and abundant energy level.  She is my favorite travel companion, my friend, my confidante and mentor.  She means more to me than words can express.  She inspires me to be a better person and to do my best to make the world a better place. She has helped me to be a better mother, wife, friend and colleague. She has taught me that being a professional and loving my work makes me no less effective in my role as a parent.  Betty is at once kind, tough as nails, and always brutally honest.  I adore her and I am thrilled that she has received this recognition, which she so greatly deserves.

As always, Betty was exceedingly humble regarding her installation into the Hall of Fame.   However, I refuse to let this honor go by quietly in the night and welcome any thoughts you would like to send to Betty regarding this very deserving honor.   Please join me, the staff of Every Child By Two, and our Board of Directors in congratulating Betty Bumpers and thanking her for bringing her work and dedication to timely infant immunizations to the attention of so many through her induction into the National Woman’s Hall of Fame.  Please email me directly at amyp@ecbt.org with your comments to Betty.
