Partnering with Health Plans: A Practical Guide - A Resource for Immunization Registry Staff

Created by the Managed Care Organization/Immunization Registry Data Exchange Committee of Every Child By Two, this eighteen-page Guide is designed to provide immunization registry managers with a better understanding of health plans and instructions on how to market registries to them.  Although the Guide is targeted to immunization registry managers, it also contains valuable information about registries that can assist health plans in understanding registries, the legal issues allowing data exchange (e.g., HIPAA), and data quality standards and methods (e.g., HL7 standards). Health Care Providers Speak Out On Immunization Registries

The American Immunization Registry Association (AIRA) is a membership organization to promote the development and implementation of immunization registries as an important tool in preventing and controlling vaccine preventable diseases. The Association provides a forum through which registry programs, interested organizations and individuals and communities combine efforts and share knowledge that promotes registry activities as a resource for immunization information systems (IIS) and immunization programs.

The CDC Immunization Information Systems Webpage is an excellent resource for general information on immunization registries as well as more detailed information on topics such as Privacy, Confidentiality, Security, Legislation, Technical Development and Guidance, Funding, and Registry Participation.  The site also contains contact lists of staff in the registry division of the CDC and managers/staff at registries across the country.
